HPF Team take out Victorian ATC Event

06/22/10

A HPF prepared Mitsubishi Evo X piloted by Peter Wrench and Robert Vickery has taken home the top prize in the Club Class at the Victorian stage of the 2010 Australian Tarmac Challenge.

April 12 2010Pete finished in first place outright in Club class as well as Top Rookie whilst Rob backed this up with a credible 12th outright and 5th in Rookie.
The Club class began the event with a head to head motorkhana at Shepparton Showgrounds in heavy rains where Peter stamped his authority early on with two firsts and two seconds.
This success was not to be long lived at Winton Raceway where both Rob and Pete performed admirably but could not match the performance of some of the big horsepower cars on an unfamiliar circuit.
A series of motorkhana stages met the drivers at Sheppartons DECA facility which suited both the Evo and Pete and Rob with several excellent stage times.  The day did not end on a complete high however as the back to back technical stages had taken its toll on the Evo’s driveline as the clutch started slipping heavily.
Sunday was not to be a race for the best times but rather became a race to finish for the team.  A wet start to the day at the Broadford Pub motorkhana stage was welcomed as Rob and Pete struggled for acceleration with the slipping clutch.
The final stage at Broadford Raceway would be the ultimate test for the rapidly failing Evo.  With its tights turns and undulating track it was a slow journey but both Pete and Rob managed to nurse the car around with plenty of revs but little road speed.
The Mitsubishi Evo 10 was near to factory standard configuration with the only modifications performed by HPF being an aftermarket exhaust, lower springs, performance brake pads and a re-calibrated ECU.
